As you’ve probably noticed, this template is super simple! I like to keep things easy because it makes everything more low-pressure and allows for flexibility as you grow and build upon it over time.

I’ve added a few example side quests in the table above, and if you click on each page, you’ll see how I like to plan and document each one. I usually include things that help me prepare for the quest or capture memories from the adventure—whatever makes it feel more meaningful to me.

How to add your side quests:

It’s as simple as pressing ‘new’ and starting your next side quest! Customise the table however you’d like—whether that’s adding a difficulty rating, priority level, or even a column to keep track of the people you completed the quest with. Make it your own!

What is a side quest?

A side quest is essentially a fun, optional activity or experience that isn’t directly connected to your main goals in life but adds excitement and joy along the way.

If you’ve played video games, you might recognise a ‘side quest’ as an extra mission or task that rewards you with points or experience, but it doesn’t necessarily advance the main storyline. In real life, side quests are similar—they’re the spontaneous adventures or activities we engage in simply for the fun of it, without worrying about whether they contribute to our larger ambitions.

Sometimes, life can get too serious, and side quests serve as a gentle reminder to break free from routine and inject a bit of playfulness and spontaneity into our days.

How to get started?

While there are no hard-and-fast rules for side quests—their main purpose is simply to be something that’s genuinely enjoyable for you—here are a few tips to help you get started:

  1. Don’t Overthink It

Your side quest can be as big or small as you want it to be. Whether it’s a weekend adventure or a simple hobby you’ve always been curious about, the key is to start without overcomplicating things.

  2. It’s Not That Serious

You’re not doing a side quest to be the best at it or to ‘level up’ in any way. You’re doing it because it sparks curiosity or excitement in you. Let the fun and discovery be your only goal.

  3. Side Quests Can Evolve

Sometimes, what starts as a side quest can turn into a main quest—something more important or meaningful in your life than you originally expected. That’s the beauty of exploring new things. You never know when a fun little adventure could unlock a new passion or side of yourself you hadn’t considered before.
